If you were the lucky recipient of a chess bag gift set you will receive 12 weeks of free lessons starting on or about October 26,2020. There will be a Zoom invitation for a class once a week here.
Before the virtual lessons start you may go to:
All of the sites have free accounts that access beginner lessons. Chess kids.com is completely safe for young students. It will improve your learning outcome when lessons start.
Contact Robin at email@example.com
The weekday classes we began over the summer are continuing Mondays from 3:30 to 5 and Fridays from 4 to 5:30.
Students can hop into the meeting whenever they are available. Now that we have covered a lot of theory over the summer, these classes are more practice oriented, with a lot of live games and training scenarios.Contact Coach David for the zoom invitation.
There is a separate class for those students enrolled in Washington Yu Ying.
Also, some quick chess updates.
My talented student Michael is a sophomore in high school and is available to give private chess lessons. He will start with more beginner students and then continue to teach more advanced students as he gains more teaching experience. If your kids are interested in learning with him, please contact his mother Kay at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Chess Girls DC is crowdfunding with GoFundMe for covid assistance. Please pitch in something if you can to help this great organization continue to do the important work of empowering girls through chess. https://www.gofundme.com/f/improving-stem-education-with-chess
For parents who would like to improve their game, my international adult classes continue Saturdays at noon, same link. We have wonderful students from three continents so far. Feel free to sign up here: http://www.chessprofessor.net/zoomclass.html
Just a reminder that the DC scholastic co ed chess classes are continuing and likely into the winter. It's been inspiring to see the improvement of all the students who have really stuck with it and have had lots of great practice against each other every session on lichess.org! (Just a reminder that in settings, you can select Kid Mode on that site to disable all communications across the site, just to be extra safe.)
Also, chesskid.com is an excellent resource to practice. Students can do puzzles, drills, play games against other kids or the computer, and work through the levels of the interactive lessons. Chesstempo.com is a little more advanced and also very useful for puzzles and endgame practice, as well as chess.com (the parent site of chesskid.com). For books, working through the levels of Coach Jay's Chess Academy is fun and helpful for more in-depth chess understanding. Please let me know if you have any questions about this event, the classes, or the training sites, and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

The classes are best suited for students in 3rd to 12th grade who know how to start a chess game and how the pieces move. If you are a total beginner, please sign up for the free Li Chess account and begin to memorize how pieces move and how to start a chess game before Thursday. This will improve your learning outcome.
The program is delivered in two parts. Zoom meeting platform and Li Chess.com platform. The student should have both pages open to quickly move from one platform to the next. The Li Chess.com platform will automatically start the tournament once you register 5 minutes before tournament.
The student must have access to internet.
The lecture will be taught by National Master David Bennett. The lecture will be delivered via Zoom invitation for 60 minutes following with a chess tournament on Li Chess .com. Please email Robin at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com directly if you have questions. If you wish to join Chess Girls DC. Direct your inquiries to Robin at firstname.lastname@example.org
By participation in this program Parents are required to visibly supervise their student at all times.
Students are advised that chats are not permitted between students. All communication must be directed towards the teacher.
Students are instructed to mute speakers at all times. All written and verbal communication must be directed to the teacher. No exceptions.
I look forward to seeing everyone again. We will cover various techniques. We will learn some new openings so that students can achieve a variety of positions to play with as they enter the middle game.
We will work on middle games, including tactics and strategy. Each Thursday we will get better at effectively carrying out a plan and using our judgement to make good decisions.
For payment, I would recommend a sliding scale between $10-20 per day depending on your ability to pay during this difficult time. Please pay your tuition no later than Tuesdays every week at email@example.com using Paypal. We often send out emails using Constant Contact Newsletter. Please look out for Constant Contact from Chess Girls DC.
Anyone who is in the position to contribute a little more will be supporting the scholarship program so that no child is denied participation due to their families financial hardship.
I hope everyone is well!
See you soon,
